This exercise manual was conceived and executed with several key goals in mind. First, this manual meets a need for a free collection of exercises for students enrolled in Introduction to Human Geography (and faculty teaching it). Second, this manual includes “real world” data that students, hopefully, will find interesting, and for students in California, or local to their own experience. Third, and most importantly, this manual sticks to my principle that students should not simply learn “about” geography, but also learn to “do geography” – so it becomes obvious to students taking even Introductory Human Geography that this discipline is focused on “problem-solving” and not a subject for trivia specialists.
